SOUTHERN HILLS LEAGUE HISTORY
- The Southern Hills League was born in the fall of 1969.
- The first full year of league competition was the 1970-71 year.
- Original 12 members: Eastern Brown, Fairfield, Fayetteville, Georgetown, Hamersville, Jefferson, Lynchburg-Clay, Mount Orab, North Adams, Ripley, West Union, Whiteoak.
- Manchester and Peebles joined the SHL in the 1971-72 school year.
- In 1970, all of the Adams County schools consolidated into one high school district and operated as four high schools (Manchester, North Adams, Peebles, West Union). Jefferson closed its doors in 1972.
- Hamersville and Mount Orab consolidated at the end of 1970-71 to become Western Brown. They started a football program and joined the Clermont County league in 1972-73.
- The School of Brown County Ursulines, a parochial girls' high school, joined the SHL in 1972-73. They were a member until their school closed in 1980-81.
- Western Latham joined in 1984-85 and brought the SHL to 12 schools.
- Georgetown left the SHL to join the Southern Buckeye Conference in 1997.
- Western Latham left the SHL to join the Southern Ohio Conference in 2002.
- The SHL currently consists of 10 members in two divisions.
- Division I consists of Eastern Brown, North Adams, Peebles, Ripley, and West Union.
- Division II consists of Fairfield, Fayetteville, Lynchburg-Clay, Manchester, and Whiteoak.
